How a prescription medicine made in China can help save lives
A prescription medicine that is made in the United States is being sold in China.
That’s because China is now allowing imports from countries where there are shortages of prescription drugs, which are critical for many American patients.
The U.S. is a major supplier of prescription medications to China, accounting for nearly 90 percent of the countrys total demand.

“There are lots of medicines in China that are produced in China,” Dr. John Cramer, an assistant professor of health care administration at New York University, told Medical News Day.
“The Chinese are the world’s largest exporter of medicines.”
Dr. Cramer said that in the past, the U-K.
would import Chinese medicines from China but then have to pay a import duty.
He said that the new policy is a step toward making imports from China less expensive.
“The U.KS has not had a prescription drug shortage in many years,” Dr Cramer explained.
“It’s very different than in China, where you can import drugs from China and then pay a lot of import duties.
Now, you can just bring your medicines over and then have them shipped out and then the government will collect the duty on the goods.
That could reduce import costs.”
